Step 1: Downloading and Installing the Software

Before recording your video, you must have an OBS studio. Download it from OBS official site.

After downloading and installing it, you’ll see a blank black screen once you open the software. There are also many options in the toolbar. Before going into detail about how to record your screen with obs without lags, here’re some major terms you need to know.

  1. Sources

Sources section is in the OBS Studio, in which you’ll set where and what to capture your main screen. It can be a game source, any window source like VLC, or your browser window.

  1. Scenes

With its name, in the scene section, you’ll see how the final captured video appears on your screen.

Step 2: OBS Setup before Recording

Starting the first time in OBS Studio, the popup will appear. It’ll show you if you want to run the setup wizard or not. If you love to set up automatically quickly, then check this option instead manually. Manually setting up is not much harder, so my recommendation to you is to set your OBS manually.

After selecting to set up manually, the OBS main screen will open. You can see the black screen. Yet there is no source selected. But, by default, the scene is selected. That default scene can record your entire screen. It means if you want to record your desktop entirely, it will show up the entire screen.

In addition, you can also add sources to record the selected screen. Likewise, you can add a VLC screen to show while capturing or your GTA V game. If you want to add your sources, click on the plus [+] icon. Then select the Display Capture button to record the screen.

When you click on OK, you can see the preview. If you don’t want to show your mouse cursor while recording, you can also select it from options. Furthermore, for multiple displays, there is an option too for selecting one of them to show on the recording.

In the end, the video source is all set. You can set the audio too from the mixer section in OBS right bottom. It shows you the audio settings of the currently selected video source. OBS always select to transfer audio from the desktop voice and microphone. But, you can mute one audio source and send the audio from which you want to listen to the audience.

Step 3: Start Recording.

Now you’re prepared to start capturing the video and audio. Set up the hotkeys from the settings to quickly start or stop the recording. From your front OBS menus, click on the “Start Recording” button to start the process for capturing your screen. In the same way, you can see the stop recording button. Click on it to stop the recording.

How do I open the OBS file?
